Synopsis
"For the lucky among us, life is what you make of it; but for Dixie Wheeler, the theme music for her story was chosen by another long ago, on the day her father butchered her mother and brothers and then slashed a knife across his own throat. Twenty-five years later, Dixie is still desperate for a connection to the family she can't remember. So, when her childhood home goes up for sale, Dixie sets aside all reason and moves in. Review
I had a great time reading this book. It is a bloody book that is horror but has a lot of thriller elements. We follow Dixie who was the only survivor after her dad kills the entire family one morning when she was a baby. Now an adult, Dixie has bought back the family home hoping to feel closer to the family she doesn’t remember. When strange things start to happen, Dixie has to unravel the questions of the past.
The first 90 percent of this book was fantastic! It was bloody, there were unreliable characters at every turn, and there was a paranormal aspect to this book that I really enjoyed. I don’t want to say too much since there is a thriller element to this story and I don’t want to spoil anything.
Unfortunately, the ending fell flat for me. I was left feeling disappointed and underwhelmed. However, I do believe I am the minority for this opinion, so I highly recommend that you pick this book up! You may in fact love the ending!
This is the perfect Halloween book for those who like slashers and mysteries.
