The Visitor Review

Title: The Visitor

By: Sergio Gomez

Synopsis: " On Christmas, during one of the worst snowstorms Indiana has ever seen, five strangers are forced to take shelter inside of a roadside diner. As the night progresses, the snowfall shows no signs of relenting, ice begins to build up on the roads, and the temperature seems to be dropping by the hour. But the worst has nothing to do with the weather, and everything to do with the sixth visitor coming to the diner. The jolliest time of the year quickly turns bloody as the diners find themselves fighting for their lives. This Christmas won’t just be white. It’ll be red, too." - Good Reads

Review

The Visitor follows a group of strangers sheltering in a roadside diner from a blizzard. All seems to be well until the last visitor comes in. Chaos ensues from there.

🖤What I liked🖤

- The setting was great. I loved that this was a horror novella that took place at one location for the story's duration. The descriptions of the cold were also done very well.

- The Afterword. I don’t want to give away any spoilers, but I was very grateful for it.

- The hunting in this book made it feel like Predator, and I really enjoyed those chapters.

- The gore and body horror were top-notch and pretty horrifying.

- The alien dog was a fun aspect of the story.

☠️ What I didn’t like ☠️

- The Length. This print book came in at 98 pages and was the shortest book I have read this year. This was WAY too short, even for a novella. I don’t think we could get to know the characters nearly as much as I would have liked.

- The typos. This book had typos and grammatical errors that sometimes took me out of the story.

In the end, this was a fun three-star read to kick off the Christmas season, though I don't recommend it while traveling 😉.
