The Ritual Review

Title: The Ritual
Author: Michael R. Goodwin
Pages: 21

Synopsis

"In the square, the villagers had gathered for The Ritual, which hasn't been performed in more than thirty years. Only those old enough to have been at the last one knew the full gravity of what was to come. Everyone (even the children) knew why they had gathered, but there was only so much that could be conveyed through the retelling of a tale.

Some things you had to see for yourself to truly understand." Via GoodReads

Themes: Holiday Horror, Gore

Review

This is only 21 pages so I won’t be giving a synopsis so all I can say here is that this hit all of my short story boxes. It was gory, a creature comes in the middle of the night, and there is worshiping of the old gods.

I read this for the first-time last Christmas day and had a phenomenal time and I had to reread it before the sequel comes out this Christmas.

If you are looking for a Christmas read with old gods and small village vibes, then I highly recommend this one!
