The Inheritance Games Book Review

Synopsis:

"Avery Grambs has a plan for a better future: survive high school, win a scholarship, and get out. But her fortunes change in an instant when billionaire Tobias Hawthorne dies and leaves Avery virtually his entire fortune. The catch? Avery has no idea why--or even who Tobias Hawthorne is. To receive her inheritance, Avery must move into sprawling, secret passage-filled Hawthorne House, where every room bears the old man's touch--and his love of puzzles, riddles, and codes.

Unfortunately for Avery, Hawthorne House is also occupied by the family that Tobias Hawthorne just dispossessed. This includes the four Hawthorne grandsons: dangerous, magnetic, brilliant boys who grew up with every expectation that one day, they would inherit billions. Heir apparent Grayson Hawthorne is convinced that Avery must be a con-woman, and he's determined to take her down. His brother, Jameson, views her as their grandfather's last hurrah: a twisted riddle, a puzzle to be solved. Caught in a world of wealth and privilege, with danger around every turn, Avery will have to play the game herself just to survive." Via Good Reads

Review

I am on a roll this year, reading fantastic books. This was so freaking good, and I just want everyone to read this. I was pretty surprised by the twists throughout this book, and I desperately wanted to know what would happen next. I felt for Avery often and was rooting for her the entire time. This story has a good balance of likable and unlikable characters. Xander was by far my favorite character!

The setting of Hawthorne House was so intriguing! I loved that there were hidden clues to discover and mysteries to be solved. The book takes us to many locations throughout the massive estate, and there are surprises to be discovered around every turn.

The twists in this story all made sense, and some of them ended up surprising me!

What I didn't expect from this book was emotion. There were several emotional topics in this book, which made me care even more about the characters. By the end, I was not just interested in the plot but fully invested in their lives.

It has been a while since I read a YA mystery/thriller, and I am so excited that they aren’t ruined for me after only reading adult books last year. I can’t wait to pick up book two to see what will happen next!

This book would be perfect for those new to the mystery genre, fans of YA books, fans of Knives Out, and people looking for a fast read to get sucked into.
