We follow Nathan, Maddie, and their 15-year-old son Ollie as they move into Nate’s childhood home. However, the house does not hold happy memories and Nathan is forced to remember his traumatic childhood with his abusive father. From the moment they move in, things start to become weird. Maddie starts to blackout while making art, Nathan is seeing his father, and Ollie is having trouble with his empathetic nature. Soon these mysterious happenings unravel to a true battle of good vs. evil.
This was a very long book (over 500 pages) and I loved all of the vivid details that Wendig weaves throughout this story. The pace felt slow after the first half. That is my only criticism of this book. The pace took away from my total enjoyment.
The best part of this book were the horror elements and the plot. Some of the scenes in this story were truly terrifying and they are still burned into my brain.
I will definitely be reading Chuck’s other books!
