Razorblade Tears Review

Synopsis:

"Ike Randolph has been out of jail for fifteen years, with not so much as a speeding ticket in all that time. But a Black man with cops at the door knows to be afraid.

The last thing he expects to hear is that his son Isiah has been murdered, along with Isiah’s white husband, Derek. Ike had never fully accepted his son but is devastated by his loss.

Derek’s father Buddy Lee was almost as ashamed of Derek for being gay as Derek was ashamed his father was a criminal. Buddy Lee still has contacts in the underworld, though, and he wants to know who killed his boy.

Ike and Buddy Lee, two ex-cons with little else in common other than a criminal past and a love for their dead sons, band together in their desperate desire for revenge. In their quest to do better for their sons in death than they did in life, hardened men Ike and Buddy Lee will confront their own prejudices about their sons and each other, as they rain down vengeance upon those who hurt their boys." This book will be in my top ten books of the year. I already know that. Razorblade Tears has received a lot of hype in the book community, which always makes me nervous. I finished this book in one sitting, which for me rarely happens. The hype for this book is so well deserved, and I know why this book is everywhere. It is such a powerful story.

Razorblade Tears focuses on feelings of anger, guilt, grief, and regret. It also shines a light on important themes of racism, homophobia, prejudice, and violence against transgender individuals.

I did nothing on Saturday but read this book. It was a heart-wrenching and action-packed experience. The action in this book makes it feel like you are watching a movie. No doubt, this book will keep you on the edge of your seat!

Ike and Buddy were such interesting and dynamic characters. They are both ex-cons that want to avenge their sons, and they are conflicted about how they felt about their sons being married. The supporting cast of characters was great too. I felt so many emotions for these people.

There are many gruesome moments in this book, and the author did not shy away from putting blood on the page, which I enjoyed. The gruesome parts of Razorblade Tears are balanced out by the moments of intense emotion.

I can't wait to read S.A. Cosby's other book, Blacktop Wasteland.
