Follow Me To Ground Review

Title: Follow Me To Ground

By: Sue Rainsford

Synopsis: " Ada and her father, touched by the power to heal illness, live on the edge of a village where they help sick locals—or “Cures”—by cracking open their damaged bodies or temporarily burying them in the reviving, dangerous Ground nearby. Ada, a being both more and less than human, is mostly uninterested in the Cures, until she meets a man named Samson. When they strike up an affair, to the displeasure of her father and Samson’s widowed, pregnant sister, Ada is torn between her old way of life and new possibilities with her lover—and eventually comes to a decision that will forever change Samson, the town, and the Ground itself." - Good Reads

Review

Follow Me to Ground is probably the strangest book I have ever read, and the story went to places that I did not expect.

🖤 What I liked 🖤

- The characters in this book were so well developed for only being 200 pages. I was not too fond of Ada in some parts of the book, but in the end, I felt like I better understood her.

- I really enjoyed how the Ground was a character and was changing throughout the story. The Ground was such a scary aspect of the world, and it makes me never want to go in a random backyard off the beaten path.

- Sue does a fantastic job with imagery, and I could picture everything in my mind (for better or worse). I will definitely be picking up more from this author!

- This book contains elements of both horror and magical realism. It was alluring, weird, graphic, and hypnotic. Content warning for descriptive medical situations. There was a great deal of body horror in this book.

💀What I didn't like💀

- It took me a bit to get used to the world.

- I wanted more from the ending.
