Berserk Vol. 1 Review

Title: Berserk Vol. 1

Author: Kentaro Miura

Summary

" His name is Guts, the Black Swordsman, a feared warrior spoken of only in whispers. Bearer of a gigantic sword, an iron hand, and the scars of countless battles and tortures, his flesh is also indelibly marked with The Brand, an unholy symbol that draws the forces of darkness to him and dooms him as their sacrifice. But Guts won't take his fate lying down; he'll cut a crimson swath of carnage through the ranks of the damned - and anyone else foolish enough to oppose him! Accompanied by Puck the Elf, more an annoyance than a companion, Guts relentlessly follows a dark, bloodstained path that leads only to death...or vengeance." Via Amazon

Review

I’ll admit I was really nervous going into this one. It has so much hype around it and I didn’t want it to let me down. I am happy to report I will now be a part of the hype! This was so good! It was gore-filled (our main character's name is Guts), gritty, and had some funny/likable characters (Puck is my favorite). The art was stunning and the story was really easy to follow. This manga is an epic fantasy filled with medieval villages and swords. To say the world is immense would be an understatement.

I don’t think that this is for everyone. But I think a lot of fantasy and horror lovers will have a good time reading this!

I will definitely be continuing with this manga. What a great start to a series!
